Gladiolus (Sword Lily)

Short description:
Gladiolus is a striking flowering plant known for its tall, upright spikes lined with large, colorful blooms. The flowers open from the bottom upward and come in shades of red, pink, yellow, white, purple, and orange. Gladiolus symbolizes strength, honor, and beauty and is often used in cut-flower arrangements.

Care:

  • Light: Bright indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

  • Water: Water regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but not waterlogged. Reduce watering slightly after flowering.

  • Soil: Well-draining, loose soil rich in organic matter.

  • Temperature: Prefers moderate warmth (18–25°C / 65–77°F). Protect from frost.

  • Fertilizer: Feed every 2–3 weeks during active growth with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

  • Support: Tall flower spikes may need staking to prevent bending or breaking.
