Aztec Lily (Sprekelia formosissima)

Description:
Aztec Lily is a striking bulb plant known for its dramatic, deep red, orchid-like flowers with long, elegant petals. It typically blooms in late spring to early summer and is often grown as a houseplant or in warm gardens. The plant has narrow, strap-like green leaves that may appear before or after flowering.

Care:

  • Light: Bright, indirect light (avoid harsh direct sun).

  • Water: Water moderately during active growth; keep soil slightly moist but never soggy. Reduce watering when the plant is dormant.

  • Soil: Well-draining potting mix, preferably one formulated for bulbs.

  • Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures; protect from frost.

  • Feeding: Feed lightly with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season.

  • Dormancy: Allow the bulb to rest after flowering by reducing water until new growth appears.
