This is a species of epiphytic or lithophytic orchid, native to Asia. It has club-shaped stems, three or four leathery leaves and densely flowered, hanging bunches of relatively large pale yellow and golden yellow flowers. that resemble a pineapple. It is a medium-sized, evergreen, epiphytic orchid with cane-like, fleshy, green upright pseudobulbs up to 60cm long. Four to six dark green, leathery, glossy leaves are arranged along the upper nodes and near the top of each pseudobulb.  The flowers are yellow with a rich orange lip which is funnel-shaped below and expands outwards into a rounded hairy and toothed top. When in bud the clusters look like cones. Flowering occurs in april-may.
